IAC's Advice Line is staffed by qualified social workers with many years experience of UK and intercountry adoption. Callers can raise questions, concerns and anxieties in confidence.
The service is designed primarily for people living in the UK although it is also used by British nationals living outside the UK who are exploring intercountry adoption.
The Advice Line receives over 4000 contacts annually, by 'phone, email, fax and post. Anyone whose life has been touched by intercountry adoption is welcome to contact IAC's Advice Line.
Individuals who can benefit from the
Advice Line are:
Would-be adopters wanting to know
- What is involved in adopting a child from overseas
- Eligibility criteria
- Legal processes
- More about the children who are placed for intercountry adoption
- General information
- Specific details about adoption from an individual country
Adoption professionals
We are frequently contacted by social workers working in local authorities or voluntary adoption agencies, who are responsible for assessing and preparing parents to adopt from overseas, by their manager, adoption lawyers, and children's guardians.
Adoptive parents, families and adopted people
They often contact IAC after the adoption has taken place. They may want to make contact with other adoptive families, or find out where to obtain support or help of a specialist nature. Adopted people may also be seeking more information about their adoption or a wish to effect a reunion with birth relatives.
