Face to Face Services
IAC offers two Face to Face services, one for prospective adopters at the pre adoption stage and the second for adoptive parents after adoption.
Face to Face Pre Adoption
IAC is very aware that accessing reliable information about intercountry adoption is an essential first step in deciding whether adopting from overseas is an option. Whilst the Advice Line and Information Days will really assist you in increasing your understanding and knowledge of Intercountry Adoption at an early stage of enquiry, there are occasions where you might wish to have a more personalised service where your individual circumstances can be discussed.
Often people prefer personal space in which to reflect on whether intercountry adoption is the most appropriate option for them, to explore the choices they might make about countries that they might consider applying to and to consider whether they can really meet the needs of the children from overseas who are waiting for families.
All our Face to Face pre adoption staff work as advisors on the Advice Line and facilitate Information Days and are therefore both knowledgeable about and familiar with intercountry adoption issues.

Face to Face After Adoption
IAC understands that for all adoptive parents the tasks associated with parenting a child from overseas brings some additional challenges alongside the many pleasures. Whilst it is often enough to talk through concerns with family and friends there are occasions when it can be beneficial to seek additional help and guidance.
IAC’s Face to Face after adoption service offers an opportunity to discuss and explore issues with experienced adoption social workers, who are themselves adoptive parents. The service does not offer formal counselling but a space where families can explore issues with a worker familiar with intercountry adoption. Frequent topics for discussion include settling a child into the family in the early days of placement, exploring adoption with children and answering difficult questions, managing school situations, coping with teenagers, and many more.
All our Face to Face after adoption staff are both experienced social workers and adoptive parents and therefore have first hand understanding of the challenges that adoptive parenting can bring.
