Advice line
IAC's Advice Line is staffed by qualified social workers with many years experience of intercountry adoption. Anyone calling the line can raise questions, concerns and anxieties in confidence with our advisors.
The service is designed primarily for people living in the UK although it is also used by British nationals living overseas who are exploring intercountry adoption.
If you prefer to, you can contact Advisors by email through Ask us a question page.
Who can benefit from the Advice Line?
Would be adopters wanting to know:
- What is involved in adopting a child from overseas?
- Eligibility criteria for countries overseas
- The legal processes of adopting from overseas
- The needs of children overseas
- Specific details about adoption from countries
Talking to an advisor offers the opportunity to explore your individual situation. However don't forget IAC's Publications, Information Days, and Country Workshops as they may also help you at the information stage.
Adoption Professionals
We are frequently contacted by social workers working in local authorities or voluntary adoption agencies who are responsible for assessing prospective adopters, by their managers, by adoption lawyers and children's guardian. If you are in this category then visit our Professionals page.
Adoptive parents, Birth Families and Adopted People
Families, both adoptive and birth families as well as adopted people may contact IAC after the adoption has taken place. They may want to make contact with other adoptive families, or find out where to obtain help and support of a specialist nature. Further information about IAC services after adoption can be obtained on the Adopters home page.
Adopted people may also be seeking more information about their adoption or wish to effect a reunion with birth relatives. The Adopted Adults link has more information about IAC intermediary services. IAC also offers a service to Birth Relatives where an adoption has had an international component.
