Who benefits from the work of IAC
The child is at the heart of all IAC services and in that sense it is the children placed for adoption with families in the UK who are the ultimate beneficiaries. But at the start of the process the Advice Line service, manned by experienced intercountry adoption specialists is free and is often the first point of call for public and professionals. We receive at least 4000 calls per year from people seeking advice and the costs of running this service annually totals £63,000. In addition IAC provides a variety of courses for prospective adopters, experienced adopters and professionals all designed to ensure that the complex needs of children adopted from overseas are understood by those who seek to parent them.
Our face to face services include both pre and post adoption counselling, and an intermediary service for adoptees and birth relatives seeking information about their past - all essential and skilled work that improves not only the quality of lives but can ensure that the adoption is successful for all members of the adoption triangle.
How can I help?
The Friends of IAC provide vital support to Intercountry Adoption Centre through attendance at fundraising events; in 2007 the IAC Tenth anniversary dinner at the Royal Overseas League, St James, in 2006 Friends partied at the Globe and there was fantastic attendance at IAC’s annual “Songs in the City” recitals at St Mary le Bow, Cheapside. Some of our supporters have also organized their own events, notably the Garden Opera in Suffolk and an art show in Gloucestershire and Friends have been most generous in making individual donations to IAC. Everyone is warmly welcomed as a Friend, whether there is an intercountry adoption link or not.
