Our staff

IAC's staff is a small team of salaried and volunteer workers which comprises the Director, Training and Development Co-ordinator, Advice Line Manager, Administrators and sessional Advisors and Trainers. All IAC advisors and most trainers are adoption practitioners who bring diverse perspectives to the organisation. Some also have a personal connection with adoption. Their previous and current collective experience of adoption practice and management in the UK includes:

• Preparation and homestudy work for domestic and intercountry adoption
• promotion of local adoption in one overseas country from which children are placed in the UK (state of origin)
• adoption social work in one state of origin in both in-country and intercountry adoption
• counselling in a general context and in relation to birth records
• adoption panel membership
• direct work with children
• children's guardians

Volunteers

Intercountry adopters and adopted people volunteer for IAC in differing ways, which include:

• As an Adopter Link, who is willing to talk over the 'phone to prospective intercountry adopters and to people who have already adopted from abroad, and/or
• As a Workshop and/or Consultation Day co-leader, with IAC advisors/trainer, and/or
• As someone who is willing to evaluate, review and contribute to IAC publications

Volunteers also contribute to the organisation through support to the administrative staff. We are fortunate to have volunteers that help us with professional training, the company accounts and the website design and administration.

Professional Advisors

Our Board of Trustees and staff team are assisted by an Advisory Panel which offers specialist expertise on matters such as adoption and immigration law, counselling, after-adoption support, parliament and finance.
