About us Intercountry Adoption Centre (IAC) is a UK registered charity. It aims to ensure that, if people do contemplate adoption from another country, they have the means of making informed decisions, with a clear understanding of the issues involved. Families and young adopted people also contact IAC after the adoption has taken place. They may want to make contact with other adoptive families, or find out where to obtain specialist support and help. Intercountry adoption is usually the only chance for the children concerned to grow up in a loving family. It is a huge undertaking to offer a child a new life in a totally different country and the adults must be properly prepared and supported, and the children's interests must be protected. They will be uprooted and transplanted into a new country, culture, and language and enormous sensitivity and patience will be needed to help them adjust. Intercountry adoption is both rewarding and challenging and not everyone who first enquires about the possibilities will follow it through. At IAC, we believe it is as important to help some people decide against proceeding as it is to support those who chose to continue. |
